Importing data into new Norlist setup

Post by Virginia »

Have updated a clients' website so they now use NorList (in v9). They import all their product info using a .csv file which works fine but doesn't recognise the new sections which use NorList. Assume they need to amend their existing spreadsheet with a new field to include the NorList sections, so have exported the new site data as a .csv file to see where the NorList information is, but am none the wiser...

If anyone has done this already and could share their experience, I'd be very grateful! TIA.

NorList automatically uses the current Actinic section structure to build the menu. So the menu should always be identical to whatever the site structure is. The site operator need do nothing special.

Either you have a browser cacheing issue or you're using the Speeding up page generation on large sites tweak ( viewtopic.php?f=9&t=342 ) and have not implemented it correctly.

As always, the URL of a problem site would help.

Thanks for the tips Norman - unfortunately this isn't to do with the live site. A test site is now on client's server and the menu is working fine.

The original spreadsheet didn't have the new sections/titles to show which product sections need to belong there - ie Tape Drive Media is the new section title with LTO Tape, DLT Tape and AIT Tape as product sections within.

Have therefore tried to add a new line to the spreadsheet above each of these products so that it ties in with the new site structure in Actinic. However when importing this new spreadsheet, the new sections appear but without the correct products within and all the products just appear in one long list...

Am just a bit lost as to how to set the spreadsheet up so that when we import the new data, Actinic recognises which products go into which sections to keep the cascading menu working as it currently does.

Any other advice would be much appreciated!

It looks like you have an Actinic import problem, not a NorList one. This would be much better dealt with on the Actinic Community ( community.actinic.com ) than here.

Did get this working as need to add a | (pipe) into the field to separate the section and sub-section headings - easy when you know how!

Unfortunately now when importing the data - Page Name, Page Title & Details are missing from the four sections which specifically use the drop out menu even though they are on the Excel spreadsheet, but every other section is fine... Have you heard of this happening before? This has been a project that has really dragged on and on and on! Many thanks for any advice.

NorList follows your Actinic Section structure. Whether these Sections are created by hand or imported makes no difference whatsoever. I don't understand you saying "missing from the four sections which specifically use the drop out menu" when all Sections use the menu.

If you're importing something and it's not creating the Section structure you expect, then, as I suggested earlier, this is an Import problem and not a NorList one.

You'd be much better asking on community.actinic.com (posting a sample of your import data and a screenshot of the section tree will also help a lot there).
